Mission and Responsibilities
Legal duties as defined in the Ministerial Regulation on the Division of Government Departments of the Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, B.E. 2563 (2020), which establishes that the Department of Internal Trade has the mission of enhancing the efficiency of domestic trade by supervising, promoting, and developing domestic trade to operate efficiently and fairly, with consumer protection. The department shall have the following duties and powers:
- Implement laws concerning goods and services pricing, commodity control laws, rice trade laws, weights and measures laws, warehouse, silo, and cold storage laws, and other related laws.
- Prepare and coordinate the department's action plans in accordance with ministry policies and action plans, including expediting, monitoring, and evaluating performance according to the department's action plans, and conduct statistics and data processing, system development, and provide domestic trade information services.
- Organize, promote, and develop domestic trade, marketing, and markets to achieve efficiency and fairness.
- Organize and promote agricultural commodity trading systems to maintain agricultural product price levels.
- Organize pricing and quantity systems for goods to ensure fairness, including promoting and developing consumers to play an active role in protecting their own interests.
- Organize and develop commercial weighing and measuring systems.
- Regulate trade and marketing, including supervising, inspecting, and controlling business operations.
- Develop laws, rules, and regulations, including implementing measures to promote fair trade.
- Perform other duties as prescribed by law to be the powers and duties of the department, or as assigned by the Minister or the Council of Ministers.
