History

In the year 1937, The cost of living rose due to the increase in prices of goods and services, following an increase in the cost of production and logistics cost. exacerbation of the problems was caused by greedy businessmen who took advantage of the situation which troubled consumers considerably. therefore, The government promulgated a new act on the prevention of trade with inflated profits of B.E. 2480 (1937). following this event, came the period during world war ii, when prices took a dramatic leap again.

At that time local businesses all belonged to foreigners. moreover, indigenous businesses were not a matter of concern for the government. this situation was heavy on the people because foreigners occupied jobs that thais should have had rightful positions in, as well as having to pay high prices for goods and services, especially those necessary for everyday living. coupled with the practice of stockpiling and withholding goods from the market, an artificial shortage was created.

At the time, The prime minister was H.E. Jompon Piboonsonkhram. He realized the significance of the cost of living to the people. thus, he had a new Department of internal trade (Dit), to be administered under the ministry of commerce. the Dit was set up according to an amendment of the act on the restructuring of ministries, boards, and departments of B.E. 2484 (1941) which was used to restructure the civil service with in the original economic ministries with the following structure:

          - Office of the Secretary to the Minister.
          - Office of the Permanent Secretary.
          - Department of Information.
          - Department of Internal Trade.
          - Department of Trade Control.
          - Department of Trade Organization Promotion.
          - Department of Commercial Registration.

In 1944, a new bill allowing for the restructuring of the DIT was promulgated, and went into effect. the central goods stockpile unit was turned into the central goods stockpile section, a full fledged section within the DIT. this occurred after the unit was renamed the "Central Goods Stockpile". the bill also transferred the provincial commerce offices, formerly under the office of the permanent secretary, into the dit as well.

In 1950, a new bill to once again restructure the Ministry of Commerce was enacted. the bill for the restructuring of Ministries, Boards, and Departments (12th issue) of 1950 mandated the abolition of the department of business promotion, and set up a new corporation promotion department as empowered to do so under the bill of regulatory structure of the civil service of the Department of Internal Trade in the Ministry of Commerce B.E. 2494 (1951). the structure of the civil service within the dit is as follows:
